About Gemma
Firstly, I have to start by saying that ‘I love my job’!, I have photographed so many wonderful families all over the country, since becoming a full time portrait photographer in 2003.
As soon as I could hold a pencil all I would do as a child was draw, I was constantly being creative and making things. I discovered my passion for photography at the age of 6, when my parents bought me my first camera. (Thanks Mum & Dad!)
Knowing that I was destined to have a creative job one day, I continued through the usual path of GSCE’s, A’Levels, Art foundation Course, BA Honours Degree and then became a portrait photographer at a well established contemporary portrait photography company in Yorkshire.
After a couple of years working for a studio, I decided I wanted to be able to spend more time with clients, to give me chance to capture more creative, unique images and also to be free from the restraints of working within four white walls. So in 2005 I started ‘Gemma Leak Photography Ltd’.
I now book only one shoot a day and this shoot can take as long as we like. I take studio lighting and backdrops to clients homes, and often use their homes and nearby locations to capture personal images that they will treasure. After the shoot I visit the clients at their homes with a projector and reveal all of the photographs to them in a private viewing.
